We are going to start some "mid-week Relief Society Meetings" focusing on fitness and nutrition. My goal is to expose everyone to some different/fun ways to get moving and take care of their bodies no matter what their age, size, current fitness level, or fitness goal. If we are all doing a little more for this amazing body that we have been blessed with, had fun doing it, and built friendships with each other along the way, then I will consider myself successful!
I am learning by trial and error how best to get information to all the sisters. I don't want anyone to feel out of the loop. I am going to start posting on this blog, so that sisters that serve in the primary and YW can get the same info and I also want to avoid sending around clipboards that are so full of stuff to read that it takes away from the lesson. Be sure to pass the word on to the sisters that you VT, too. There may be some activities that could help someone get to know other sisters in the ward better.
Here are some fitness groups or activities that are already going on:
- Volleyball (Shannon posted details earlier)
- T/Th 6-7am at the Stake Center, Step Aerobics/Pilates (I went last week, it was a lot of fun!) They have a few extra steps, but the workout can also be done without one. If you have a step, you could bring it. They have a cabinet to put their stuff in. It would also be helpful to bring a mat or a towel for floor work, but some women don't.
-There is walking at the church at 8 am every weekday.
- There is a 5:30 am group that runs 3.3 miles every week day, even during the winter. Call me if you want more details.
-If 5 am is the only time you can work out, call Mindy Inskeep. She would love to get a group going. It's always more fun to do things with friends!
-On Jan 5 an indoor walking program will be starting at Stoddard Elementary. (I will have fliers with the details at church.)
- The guys play basketball on Tuesday evening at the sixth grade. If Basketball is your thing, then call Liam Pope for more information. I'm sure they wouldn't mind a women showing them how it's done!
-There are Racquetball and Handball courts at the high school. They are open to the public in the morning from 6-8, in the afternoon after 4, and on weekends. The cost is $60 for you whole family for the year Sept-Aug.(They close during Aug for building maintenance.) You need to bring your own equipment. Call the district office:785-8800 for more info.
-A bunch of us are wanting to start training to do a 5K(about 3 miles) together this spring or summer. Some of us want to beat a certain time, but some of us just want to cross the finish line in one piece! Whatever our specific goal is, we all want to be able to say we did it and have the matching T-shirt to prove it! If you're interested contact Jesse Walker.
I think that is all for right now. I hope this gives you some ideas and sparks your imagination. If you know of any other opportunities, be sure to let me know so that I can spread the word. I know that with our busy lives it is so hard to fit in one more thing, but I know that if we make it a matter of prayer, Heavenly Father will help us find something that will work for us. Even if it's just for15 minutes. Let's make this fun!!!
